Hello my name is Penny Donno and I am the Principal Children and Families and Social for the East Riding of Yorkshire.
I have worked with children and young people for the last 30 years in various roles within children’s disability, child protection, youth offending, fostering and residential services. I am a qualified social work practice teacher and have been trained and accredited in a variety of assessment tools and practice models including Solution Focussed Therapy, Counselling, the Structured Assessment of Risk and Need (SARN), Graded Care Profile 2 (GCP2) and Signs of Safety.
In my current role I undertake a wide range of tasks including strategic service planning and development, frontline practice with children and families as well as lots of consultation, training and support with social work colleagues.
Listening to people and working with them to understand what needs to change is one of my favourite aspects of the job. I work to the principle that everyone can change and that I can learn something every day; this has maintained my motivation and enthusiasm across the years.
Recently having Ofsted highlight the Principal Social Worker role in east Riding as an example of outstanding practice, made me very proud of the work that I and others do. I am proud to work with such a committed group of social work colleagues as I know that every day they work hard to do the best job they can and it is my role to help make sure that we create the best conditions to support whilst doing it.
